I recently moved to California and suddenly life's been in full gear. No more sound of waves, I don't hear the brawling feral chickens and no more feel of sand on my feet. And when something as beautiful as Hawaii was taken away from you, you evolve and learn to compensate for the loss. I did this with a new fullscale hobby - digital photography. Writing took a backseat, shoe designing sitting next to it.
Fullscale photography to me doesnt mean you have to be walking around with your camera hanging around your neck all the time. No. You get a pretty shopper tote for that heavy camera (hee). But I mean joining photography clubs, buying books and paying more attention to what you shoot and how you stand when you shoot. You're not just taking photos, you're taking beautiful photos.
Recently while gardening (I call this my mind breather), I took a shot of an orange lily. As a girl and through my eyes, I admired the whole plant with its pot and shot it. It came out nothing out of the ordinary. Another shot, I encased it in a black garbage bag, positioned it with minimum lighting (sun) and shot it real tight. The result is this:
