Understanding Blogging
written by May Rogers

Blogging is the most common hobby on the web by many and we gotta admit that this is much more beneficial, wholesome and productive hobby a woman or man can vent on. A lot of people do not understand what blogging is about and they stay absolutely passive or mentally rejecting words webbed from articles that are not backed by ".com" or "news..." or "...pedia" which icked me a bit since I'm a blogger myself.

Blogging is truly a form of journal in the greenest sense of the activity without the use of pen and paper (saving some, you see?). Rather, we use power, monitor and keyboard. A journal that won't put a person in the brick of being sued for misusing others' published works since blogging is considered "personal" without a company or publication to back it up (or to sue). "Freedom of speech" is gonna be your argument. While blogging etiquette must still be observed, it is pretty much your own work, your own creation, your own rules, your own passion.

Professional blogging is one thing, group blogging is another. Group blogging promotes solidarity, sharing of minds and creating "oneness" through stories and experiences by members. It is refreshing and it feels great to belong.

I'm also new to blogging but I learned somethings from writing-for-the-web workshops. I wanna share some blogging pointers:

* Always give proper citations and credits to phrases or photos you use on your blog that are not originally your creation.
* Be professional in your use of phrases and vocabs. You never know who is following you.
* Always link your articles to other relevant articles you have written in the past. This way, readers would know you are getting quite absorbed, confident and committed to writing.
* Information is the key. At the end of the day, blogging is not just gonna be "typing your heart away". Produce information that will keep readers coming back to reading your blog.
* Tag your articles for easy searches. Again, you never know who browses the web that could end up reading your stuff (and might like it).
* Name it yours! If you know there's nothing fishy going on in your article content, go ahead and name it yours. Otherwise, if you're quite the private type, use a pen name and leave a contact info at the end of your article.
* Be a big (wide) reader.

Funny how I should say "be a big reader" when I'm not a fan of books. But hey, I write for travel, fashion and poetry. Do I need books? Kidding aside, I read magazines, enterpreneur guide books, club gazettes and writers, poetry compilation, design and travel magazines. Other books, yeah they do belong to shelves!

Hope this article about blogging helps and you'd be convinced that blogging is not just a total waste of time.

Cheers, Sisters! We are doing great here! :)
